Blog Post #1: The Frequency of Fate: Why Music is the Only True Magic

They say that in the 10th Era, the Veil didn't just break… it resonated until it shattered.

When I sat down to build the magic system for the Things Not Meant to Be Seen trilogy, I didn't want a system based on arbitrary rules or "mana points." I wanted something that felt as real as the adrenaline in a cage fight... or the tension of a vacant building search at 2 in the morning. I realized that the only thing in our world that truly mimics magic is Music.

The Science of the Sacred

Think about it: music is the only force that transcends species and even organisms. It moves humans to tears and inspires triumphs. It gets us through our heartbreaks and amplifies the thoughts we keep buried in our hearts. It influences the migration of insects and changes the very vibration of our cells. It is the ultimate "incantation." If there were a real source of power in this universe, it wouldn't be found in a dusty tome (even though writing holds power), it would be found in the Spoken Word, the Song, and the Vibration.

In my world, Mana is a literal frequency. To harness it is to "conduct" reality. Whether it’s the Stone-Singers of the Stórbrødre or the melodic weaving of the Elohim, magic is an act of harmony… or a violent discord.

The Soundtrack of Things Not Meant To Be Seen

I don’t write in silence. Every visceral battle and every quiet moment of "Affirmation" has a frequency. Here are a few tracks that didn't just inspire the story… they became the building blocks of characters and inspired entire scenes:

  • 2Pac — Troublesome '96

  • 2Pac — So Many Tears

  • 2Pac — Hit 'Em Up

  • Biggie & Bob Marley — Hold Ya Head

  • Big X Da Plug — Back on My BS

  • Scarface — I Seen a Man Die

  • Meek Mill — Trauma

  • Kanye West — Runaway

  • Trinidad James — All Gold Everything

  • JMSN — Love Me

  • Vance Joy — Riptide

  • The Unveiled - Ndikhokhele

  • Thanda Choir — Uthando

  • Samuel Barber — Adagio for Strings

  • The Lumineers - Salt and the Sea

What’s Your Frequency?

Music is how we bridge the gap between who we are and who we are meant to be. Our dreams echo in the lives of our children, and music is the medium that carries that echo across time.
